HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024 Grid Predictor Game: Terms of Play
These Terms of Play (the “Terms of Play”) shall govern your participation in the HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024 Grid Predictor Game (the “Game”) available at www.play.svns.com/predictor or on the Official HSBC SVNS App. The Game is being promoted by World Rugby Tournaments Limited (World Rugby) and these Terms of Play apply to you so far as the law permits - so please read them carefully.
Notice Regarding Personal Data: By entering the Game, you agree to World Rugby processing your personal data for the purposes of administering the Game and including contacting you in the event that you are selected as a winner of the Game and to discussing this with you. World Rugby shall process all personal data it collects from you in accordance with its Privacy Policy (available here). The personal data which you provide in connection with this Game shall not be used for any purpose which is incompatible with the purposes of facilitating your entry into this Game and/or the purposes described in World Rugby’s privacy policy, unless you have consented to us sharing your information with third parties in accordance with the privacy policy, these Terms of Play or that purpose is discussed with you by World Rugby in advance. We will also share your personal data with our third party service providers (including Genius Sports Limited, as described in Section 1 below, who is the operator of the Game on behalf of World Rugby) to enable us to obtain administrative, technical and maintenance support for the Game and to provide you with any game-specific updates or communications. These service providers are not authorised by us to use or disclose personal data except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or comply with legal requirements.
The personal information relating to you that we may collect in relation to your entry will include:
a. Your first and last name;
b. Your email address;
c. Your country of residence;
d. Your date of birth;
e. Your Team supported;
f. We may need to collect your postal address and a contact number for the purpose of communicating with a winner; and
g. Any correspondence we have with you in relation to our consideration of your Registration of entry and use of the Game.
The processing of your personal data above is a pre-condition to you entering this Game and required prior to entry into and playing of the Game.
You may withdraw your consent to processing at any time by writing to us at dataprotection@worldrugby.org. However, if a User withdraws their consent to us using their personal information as described above, they can no longer participate in the Game and they will forego their opportunity to win the Game. Withdrawal of consent does not mean that any lawful processing of your personal data with your consent up to that point is unlawful.
Acceptance of the Terms of Play is a condition of entry in the Game and the entry instructions referenced below form part of the Terms of Play.
Prior to submitting an entry to the Game, you shall be required to confirm acceptance of these Terms of Play.
1. Definitions for HSBC SVNS Grid Predictor
1.1 The following definitions apply in relation to the HSBC SVNS 2023/2024 Grid Predictor Game only:
“Registration” means the logging in to the Game or registration of an account with World Rugby in order to make Predictions in the Game;
“Affiliates” means, in relation to a party (including in particular, World Rugby, any other entity directly or indirectly controlling, controlled by, or under common control with such party and including the World Rugby group of companies;
“Game” means the HSBC SVNS 2023/2024 Grid Predictor Game as accessed via the HSBC SVNS Website or HSBC SVNS App taking place during the HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024, in which Users will be able to play and make Predictions on each HSBC SVNS Event, starting from the HSBC SVNS Event scheduled to take place in Cape Town, South Africa which is currently scheduled for 09/10 December, 2023 and ending immediately after the last match of the HSBC SVNS Madrid, Spain Event, currently scheduled to end on Sunday, 02 June, 2024;
“User” means the individual responsible for the account, account registration, selection and entry of predictions to the Game;
“Displayname” means the Displayname that Users create and provide when registering their account with World Rugby (including each of the World Rugby websites);
“Player” means a playing squad member of a HSBC SVNS participating nation Team;
“Team” means a HSBC SVNS participating nation;
“Leagues” means any Private or Public league that is set up by a User or the Administrator (being World Rugby);
“League Owner” means the User who originally created a Private League (which will only be in circumstances where Private Leagues are a feature deployed at any stage within the Game);
“Leaderboard” means the Global Leaderboard that all Users are entered into upon Registration;
“Stats Centre” means the global view of all Rounds, Events and Series related Team and Player performance statistics;
“Scheduled Round Kick-off” means the stated published time at which the first match within a Round within an Event is due to start (in the case of delays, the original scheduled Round kick-off time stands);
“Round” means a round of each HSBC SVNS Event, which may include either the Pools Round or the Cup Round;
“Event” means a HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024 event that takes place in a particular city during the HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024 (and usually occurring over a weekend);
“% selected” means the percentage of times a Player has been selected amongst all selecting Users;
“Auto-pick” means auto-selecting a User’s remaining predictions;
“Locked” means a Player or Team that is not available to be selected as a prediction within the Game, at a given point in time or where the ability to submit any Grid Predictions is no longer available;
“Prediction” means a prediction concerning a Team or Player selected against one of the seven (7) metrics/questions available within the Game;
“Points” means the number of Game points a Player or Team scores in relation to their performance, or the number of points scored in total by a User. This may be reflected on a User’s prediction page as well as in Leagues and Leaderboards;
“Event Points” means the number of Game points a User scores over a given Event. This may be reflected on a User’s prediction page as well as in Leagues and Leaderboard;
“Total Points” means the number of Game points scored by a User’s predictions in relation to their overall HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024 performance within the Game at a point of time. This may be reflected on a User’s prediction page as well as in Leagues and Leaderboard;
"Website" means play.svns.com/predictor/;
“App” means HSBC SVNS Application (available on iOS, Android);
“Genius Sports” means Genius Sports Limited the service provider engaged by World Rugby to develop and operate the Game, whose registered company number is 9975401 and address is 10 Bloomsbury Way, London, WC1A 2SL, UK;
2. Entrants:
2.1. The Game is open to all Users of all ages but those under the age of 16 must provide additional consent of a guardian prior to commencing to play the Game. All Users must have a valid SVNS or World Rugby account in order to play the Game.
2.2. By entering this Game you agree to be legally bound by these Terms of Play.
2.3. World Rugby employees and World Rugby Affiliate employees and Genius Sports employees and Genius Sports Affiliate employees, or those employed by World Rugby and Genius Sports’ subsidiaries, their agents, third parties or anyone else professionally connected with the HSBC SVNS Series (or a particular Event), the Game (and their immediate families) and anyone else connected with the Game may enter but shall not be eligible to claim any prizes (if at any point a prize(s) is on offer within the Game). World Rugby reserves the right to verify the eligibility of Users and winners. World Rugby may require such information as it considers reasonably necessary for this purpose.
3. How to Enter:
3.1. Each User can submit one set of predictions per Round in each Event, provided that the entry of Predictions adheres to these Terms of Play.
3.2. In order to enter the Game, you must first register a User account on the Official HSBC SVNS Website or App (or via any of the World Rugby websites). Your User account personal information will be processed by World Rugby in accordance with its Privacy Policy (available here);
3.3. Users must not register Predictions in other names or with multiple email addresses in an attempt to unfairly increase their chances of winning the Game. Users found to be controlling more than one account under more than one name in the Game may be disqualified from the Game.
3.4. Registrations must be submitted online using the Website or App. Users will be able to start entering Predictions before the next Scheduled Round Kick-off Time following the successful submission of a Registration. Points will not be backdated – Users will only have an opportunity to win points in relation to Predictions entered prior to Rounds arising after Registration has been completed and Predictions have been submitted.
3.5. Genius Sports and World Rugby shall not be responsible for Account Registrations or submission of Predictions that get lost in transmission or are received late due to high online traffic levels or fail as a result of technical failures with the Website, App or the Game. We recommend that Registrations and the submission of Predictions are not left until immediately before a published deadline for submission prior to each Round as Users may risk missing such deadline and missing the opportunity to enter Predictions for that Round.
3.6. World Rugby reserves the right to verify the eligibility of Registrations. World Rugby may require such information as it considers reasonably necessary for this purpose.
3.7. By participating in this Game, you agree to release, discharge and hold harmless World Rugby and its Affiliates from any and all injuries, liability, losses and damages of any kind resulting from your participation in this Game (save that nothing shall limit World Rugby and its Affiliate’s liability which cannot be excluded at law).
3.8. To enter the Game, you will require internet access and an e-mail account. By entering this Game, the User warrants that their entry (including Displaynames and League Names) does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
3.9. World Rugby may, in its sole discretion, disqualify Users deemed to be non-compliant with these Terms of Play and World Rugby reserves the right to refuse entry to or disqualify any User whose conduct may be unlawful or otherwise bring the Game or World Rugby into disrepute. In the event of such disqualification of a winner, World Rugby may nominate another User as the winner(s) of the Game.
4. Purchase Requirements:
Entry into the Game is free. No purchase is necessary.
5. Team, League and Manager names
From time to time, the Game may (but is not obliged to) provide a function for Users to create their own Private Leagues. If such a function is enabled, World Rugby reserves the right to refuse to accept any Private League names or Displaynames which have been duplicated or are considered, in World Rugby’s sole discretion, to be inappropriate, defamatory, obscene, misleading or offensive. Users must be aware that such Private League names may be deleted or amended so that the name of the Private League appears as the User’s Displayname. Private Leagues and Displaynames that include website addresses may also be deleted or amended at the discretion of World Rugby.
6. Player selection
World Rugby shall not enter into any correspondence or communications relating to the details of the selection list (i.e. the list of Teams and/or Players that can be selected for the purposes of a Prediction or within the Game), nor will it accept the inclusion into a Prediction of any Player who is not on the selection list. World Rugby’s decision in this regard is final.
7. Prediction selection
7.1 Users' Prediction selections for each Round must include six Team selections and one individual Player selection.
7.2 A Team can only appear once per row in the same set of Predictions at any one time – A Team duplication is not permitted within the same row of Predictions in a particular Round.
7.3 Users not wishing to select their own Predictions but still wishing to participate in the Game may do so by clicking the Auto-pick button during the prediction process. An eligible grid of Predictions will be generated for the User at random and details of that selection will be shown on-screen.
7.4 The ability of a User to submit Predictions for a particular Round will be locked immediately prior to the Scheduled Round Kick Off time relevant to the particular Round. Once a Prediction has been locked, it cannot be changed.
8. Scoring points
8.1. Points will be awarded based on all HSBC SVNS 2023/2024 Series matches played from Saturday, 09 December 2023 up to and including the final match of the 2023/2024 Series, scheduled for Sunday, 02 June, 2024. World Rugby reserves the right at any time to change or vary (including add to or remove from and including dates and/or fixtures) any matches, Rounds or Events for which Predictions may be submitted or points may be awarded during the 2023/2024 Series. World Rugby’s decision in this regard shall be final.
8.2. Points from abandoned matches shall not count towards scoring in the Game. In the event of an abandoned match or altered match time, if considered necessary by World Rugby, an updated Scheduled Round Kick-off time may be published within the Game. Otherwise, the original Scheduled Round Kick-off time (as stated in the Game) stands.
8.3. . Points for all Teams and Players will be awarded per Round as follows:
• Offloads: The total number of successful offloads by the selected team in a given Match.
• Tries Scored: The total number of tries scored by the selected team in a given Match.
• Line breaks: The total number of successful line breaks by the selected team in a given Match.
• Player tries: The total in-game points scored via tries by the selected Player in a given Match.
At the discretion of World Rugby, the seven grid metrics may be changed, varied, expanded or reduced at any time throughout the HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024 to ensure the best possible gameplay experience for Users.
8.4. Points will be altered for decisions that are reviewed retrospectively. Therefore, the Points that are awarded to a Team or Player (or User), during or at the end of a match, Round or Event are not final and may be reviewed and updated by World Rugby at any time as required.
8.5. World Rugby’s decision shall be final in relation to all elements of the Game (including any updates, changes or variations to the Game, including to these Terms of Play) and World Rugby will not enter into any correspondence regarding points deducted or allocated to Teams or Players (or Users).
8.6. Scores will be updated within a reasonable period of time after full-time of each match (but may still be subject to change/variation as outlined in this section 8). Scores will be published across the Game, on the Website and App.
9. Live scoring
9.1. As far as possible, during all eligible HSBC SVNS Series matches, Users will have the option to view the progress of their Predictions.
9.2. Important: live score updates are offered purely to enhance Users’ enjoyment of the Game and live points and points updates should be regarded as indicative only. All live points are subject to verification. Classified scores will be published following verification, in accordance with Clause 8, “Scoring Points”.
10. Game Rounds and Events
10.1. There are two Rounds per Event in each HSBC SVNS Event - 1. the Pool Round and 2. the Cup Round.
10.2. The Events in respect of which the HSBC SVNS Grid Predictor Game may be played are as follows:
• Event 1 – Cape Town: Sat 9/12 - Sun 10/12
• Event 2 – Perth: Fri 26/1 - Sun 28/1
• Event 3 – Vancouver: Fri 23/2 - Sun 25/2
• Event 4 – Los Angles: Fri 1/3 - Sun 3/3
• Event 5 – Hong Kong: Fri 5/4 – Sun 7/4
• Event 6 – Singapore: Fri 3/5 – Sun 5/5
• Event 7 – Madrid: Fri 31/5 – Sun 2/6
11. Leagues
11.1. From time to time, the Game may (but is not obliged to) provide a function for Users to create their own Private Leagues. If such a function is enabled within the Game, Users will have the opportunity to form their own Private Leagues and join other Private Leagues.
11.2. If a Private League function is enabled within the Game, each User may participate in an unlimited amount of Private Leagues.
11.3. If a Private League function is enabled within the Game, Private Leagues can be registered via the Game. A League Owner must first register their Predictions online via the Game. The League Owner will be instructed to select a League name and will then be allocated a League PIN. The PIN must be given (in exactly the form they appear) to all invited participants of that Private League or the League Owner can choose to send an email invite to other Users.
11.4. If a Private League function is enabled within the Game, Leagues can be created and joined at any time throughout the Game.
11.5. League Owners of Private Leagues are advised to circulate their League PIN only to people they wish to join the League.
11.6. From time to time, the Game may (but is not obliged to) provide a function for Users to join Public Leagues (in addition to the Global Leaderboard) which will be created and administered by World Rugby.
12. No Prizes:
There are no prizes on offer or available to any winner or winners of the Game, including winners of a Round, Event or Global Leaderboard.
For the avoidance of any doubt, the Game is offered by World Rugby solely for Users and rugby fans to enjoy a more interactive experience when watching and attending the HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024.
From time to time, World Rugby may decide to offer prizes in relation to the Game, or specific elements of the Game and World Rugby shall have the right to do so (or continue not to do so) at its sole discretion. If World Rugby decides to offer a prize in relation to any aspect of the Game, these Terms of Play shall be updated to make provision for the offering of such prize(s), including all such necessary terms relating to the prize itself, prize notifications, prize acceptance, winner eligibility and requirements and other such prize-related terms that World Rugby deems necessary at its discretion.
13. Winner Selection:
13.1. The overall Global Leaderboard winner of the Game shall be the User with the most amount of Points earned throughout the HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024 (i.e. the total accumulated points across all Events), at the end of the Game. In the event that there is a tie in the number of points won between different entrants, the selected winner will be the first entry selected via an automated randomised draw from all tying entries.
13.2. The Event winner(s) shall be the User with the most amount of Points earned throughout each Event (as outlined in Section 10) of the HSBC SVNS Series 2023/2024. In the event that there is a tie in the number of points won between different entrants, the selected winner will be the first entry selected via an automated randomised draw from all tying entries.
14. Winner Notification:
14.1. The selected winners of the Game (and any sub-categories of the Game) shall be contacted by World Rugby once the winner selection process has concluded.
14.2. A winner will be contacted using the details provided to enter the competition. If a winner is not contactable within the time-frame specified, an alternative winner may be selected at World Rugby’s sole discretion in a manner consistent with these Terms of Play.
14.3. The winners may be required to participate in publicity arising from this Game with no recompense or payment. The winner also agrees to the use of their image on a worldwide basis, in any media.
14.4. Winners' names, Prediction Selections, photographs and any comments made in relation to or by a winner may be used, publicly and privately, by World Rugby without limitation for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes, in all and any media worldwide without notice and without any fee being paid or payable by World Rugby to a winner. Entry and participation in the Competition will be deemed to be your acceptance of these Terms of Play.
15. Tie-Breaks
15.1. In the event that there is a tie in the number of points won between different winning entrants, the selected winner will be the first entry selected at random from all tying entries. The decision of World Rugby regarding Tie-Breaks shall be final and binding.
16. Negative Publicity:
16.1. No Registrations or Predictions from agents, third parties, organised groups or Registrations or Predictions automatically generated by computer will be accepted. No incomplete or corrupted Registrations or Predictions will be accepted. Registrations and Predictions will only be accepted if they comply with all entry instructions. Any Registrations or Displayname that is deemed as offensive, inappropriate, obscene, unlawful or contain otherwise objectionable content or information will not be granted approval and will therefore be excluded from the Game. In addition winners shall not display or publicize any political slogans or homophobic language, images of a lewd or explicitly sexual nature, images containing logos of competitors and overt brand sponsorship or anything else deemed to be ambush marketing or an abuse of the Game, HSBC SVNS Series or World Rugby, content which is defamatory, obscene, illegal, vulgar, offensive or otherwise unsuitable or infringes others’ rights (including intellectual property rights) or reflects negatively upon any of World Rugby, the HSBC SVNS Series or any World Rugby Affiliate, Player or Team.
17. Final Decision:
The decision of World Rugby in all matters is final and binding and no correspondence or communications shall be entered into by World Rugby in relation to any matters of dispute.
18. Third Parties:
World Rugby is not responsible for any third party acts or omissions.
19. Industrial and Intellectual Property:
The reproduction, representation or exploitation, by Users or any third parties, of all or part of the elements composing the Game that are offered are strictly prohibited. All trademarks or product names mentioned are trademarks or registered product names of their respective owners.
20. Unlawful Entries:
Users must not be resident in a jurisdiction in which participation in the Game breaches any applicable laws. By entering, the User warrants that he or she is permitted by law in their relevant jurisdiction to enter and to play the Game.
21. General
21.1. World Rugby reserves the right to refuse to accept any Registration, User Predictions or League entry which in World Rugby’s opinion does not comply with these Terms of Play or which contravenes the spirit of the Game, HSBC SVNS and/or the sport of rugby sevens.
21.2. The name “HSBC SVNS Grid Predictor”, “HSBC SVNS” “World Rugby” and other trademarks, images and logos relating to the Game and the HSBC SVNS Series and used in relation to the Game are the exclusive property of World Rugby and your participation in the Game does not confer any rights to you in or over your playing of the Game, or grant you any right to use or create any derivative works relating to the aforementioned intellectual property of World Rugby and/or the Game.
21.3. The Game, including but not limited to play details, functionalities, mechanics of play, statistics and information contained within the Game, is offered on an AS IS basis at the point at which it is published live. World Rugby will, and reserves the right to, make changes to any aspect of the Game at its sole discretion at any time, including but not limited to for the purposes of improving User enjoyment and experience of the Game, improving or repairing in-Game functionality and/or increasing fan engagement.
21.4. World Rugby reserves the right at its reasonable discretion to add to, revise or waive these Terms of Play at any time and/or cancel the Game or any part of it at any stage at World Rugby’s discretion without any liability. World Rugby reserves the right, at any stage, at its discretion, to terminate or modify the Game, modify these Terms of Play or include or vary details of any prize or prize processes that may be offered (if offered) by World Rugby at its sole discretion.
21.5. World Rugby and Genius Sports shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered by any person as a result of, or in connection with, or arising from the Game, any prize (if offered), or these Terms of Play, or the use of the same except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
21.6. If you have any complaints about the Game please contact us here. We take any complaints you have seriously, and if you contact us we will endeavour to deal with your problem as fairly, quickly and efficiently as possible.
21.7. Responsibility is not accepted for results, Predictions or Points lost, damaged or delayed as a result of any network, or computer hardware or software failure of any kind or removed from any social media platform as a result of third party rights breach or a breach of the rules of any social media platforms.

22. DISCLAIMER:
NEITHER WORLD RUGBY NOR ANY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE AFFLIATES, EMPLOYEES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS WILL BE LIABLE (TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW) FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL LOSS OR DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF OUR ORGANISING OR HOLDING OF THIS GAME OR AS A RESULT OF YOUR SUBMISSION OF ANY REGISTRATION FOR THIS GAME OR AS A RESULT OF THE FINAL DETERMINATION OF THE WINNERS, OR IF THE GAME OR WINNER SELECTION PROCESS DO NOT RUN AS PLANNED. IF THE GAME OR WINNER SELECTION PROCESS OR ANY PART OF THE SAME IS NOT CAPABLE OF RUNNING OR BEING COMPLETED AS PLANNED FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO REASONS OF INFECTION BY COMPUTER VIRUS, BUGS, TAMPERING, UNAUTHORISED INTERVENTION, TECHNICAL FAILURES OR ANY OTHER CAUSES BEYOND THE CONTROL OF RWCL, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL, TERMINATE, MODIFY OR SUSPEND THIS GAME AND/OR WINNER SELECTION PROCESS.
23. Severance:
If any of these terms are determined to be illegal, invalid or otherwise unenforceable then the remaining terms shall continue in full force and effect.
24. Governing Law:
These Terms of Play (and any non-contractual obligations arising out of them) shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and the parties agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of England and Wales.
World Rugby reserves the right to decide without appeal any difficulty that may arise with regard to the interpretation or application of these Terms of Play, it being understood that no dispute will be allowed, in particular regarding the terms of the Game, the results, any prizes (if offered) or their receipt, after 31 of July 2024.
